Acupuncture

Acupuncture is administered by inserting extremly thin needles into the skin.

The points that are needled by a Licensed Acupuncturist are relevent to the patient's condition.

The needles often go in painlessly or sometimes with a quick pinch.

There is usually sensation felt after the needle is in. You may feel a heavy, tingling, moving or dull sensation. The sensation is positive, it means that the needle has tapped into the point's
energy and is working to heal you.

Massage and Acupressure

We use massage (tui na) and acupressure to enhance the effects an acupuncture treatment.

Infrared Heat

Heating lamps used during treatment enhance warmth for those clients whose condition needs strong heating.

Electro-Stimulation

Electro-stimulation uses micro- or milli-amperage to stimulate the acupoints and meridians, with or without needles.

Electro-stimulation increases acupuncture's effect on the innate electromagnetic nature of the body and is often used to treat pain and to induce the healing of tissue.

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient therapy that uses cups as suction devices placed on the skin.

This therapy is very helpful for releasing toxins, knotted muscles, inflammation and swelling.

Expect a slight pinching sensation at the site of cupping (most commonly the back) and bruises the size of the cups used.

One should be very cautious to cover the cupped area after cupping because the skin's pores are open and more susceptible to sickness from the cold, wind, heat or humidity.

Moxa

Moxa or Moxibustion is the term to describe burning the herb known as mugwort on or over an area as a method of treatment.

The Properties of Mugwort are warming, nourishing and circulating. These properties penetrate deeply into the body when burned above the surface of the skin.

Moxa will leave you feeling rested and energized. It also feels great during the long winter months.

We integrate moxibustion in our treatments when indicated, but we can also show you how to use it safely and effectively at home.

We offer moxibustion demonstrations for cases of breech babies, chronic pediatric constipation, insomnia and other conditions that are benefited by using "moxa".
